"The 2016 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is the most promising candidate for cellaring of all these reds from Lutum, offering up attractive aromas of cherry, raspberry, currant leaf and aromatic bark, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered palate with juicy acids, a nice sense of completeness, and a firm, chewy finish which will soften with a little bottle age." – The Wine Advocate, 93+ Points
Notes from Winemaker
Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in Santa Barbara County (planted in 1971), located in the famed Sta. Rita Hills. We harvest from 3 different blocks on the property, which helps us find optimal balance and ripeness.
These grapes were harvested on August 12th, 23rd. At the winery, the grapes were destemmed and underwent a four-day cold-soak prior to fermentation. The wine was then gently pressed and put into French oak barrels where it stayed for 16 months before being bottled in January of 2018.
