This wine’s delicate ruby color betrays the intense burst of fruit and
herbs, both in the aroma and on the palate. Full of flavor and
refreshing acidity, tart cherry and underripe strawberry dominate the
glass, with savory hints of roasted sage and orange zest adding
interest. This wine is worthy of decanting, or at least some time in
the glass, to let the flavors develop and show its full complexity.
Notes from Winemaker
Adjacent to Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, La Rinconada benefits from the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean and lingering fog as well. We were the first outside of the estate to make wine from here and this is one of our favorite sites. Due to the richer clay soil La Rinconada is more brooding and masculine than it’s neighbor, Sanford & Benedict.
At harvest, the grapes were destemmed and underwent a four-day cold-soak prior to fermentation. The wine was then pressed and racked into 20% new French oak barrels. The wine was bottled unfiltered 16 months later in January of 2018.
